Eggs - Good or Bad??

After years of being told that eggs are bad for us, scientists are now recanting their previous statements and changing their tune.

According to a recent report released by the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry Dept., evidence now shows that eggs "might actually reduce high blood pressure." When working with eggs, scientists found that the proteins in them seemed to work as good as some well known medications in lowering blood pressure.

Even though this study was funded by the livestock and poultry industry, which is important to look at when reading studies, eggs have always been labeled as "good for you" within the natural medicine field. Dr. Mercola has been a big supporter of eating eggs for years while many doctors in the past were concerned about the cholesterol. He states that "the idea that eggs are unhealthy is a complete myth, one that is easily debunked if you look at the evidence."

According to Dr. Mercola, the "misguided principle" was developed in the 1950's by nutrition pioneer Ancel Keys who based the theory on "lipid hypothesis." The health community embraced the idea and promoted all animal fats as "artery clogging."

Dr. Rosedale, MD, who is one of the leading anti-aging doctors in America, has addressed the issue of cholesterol in eggs stating: "First and foremost cholesterol is a vital component of every cell membrane on earth. In other words, there is no life on earth that can live without cholesterol. Cholesterol also is a precursor to all of the steroid hormones. You cannot make estrogen, testosterone, cortisone, and a host of other hormones without cholesterol."

Although some studies show that we do need to watch our intake of other animal fats, the data on eggs seems, A-Ok!

I do want to note that is strongly recommended in the health industry to buy your eggs organic, for the extra B, D and minerals, and to also reduce your risk of pesticides, gmo's and added hormones.
